The Wal-Mart hotel

Stays of more than 40 hours not recommended.

For 41 hours, Bartels wandered the aisles of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Windsor Heights that’s open 24 hours a day. He checked out shoppers, read magazines, watched movies on the DVD display and played video games.

He bought meals at the in-store Subway sandwich shop, but was able to catch only brief naps in a restroom stall or on lawn chairs in the garden department.

The trend that won’t die.

If you haven’t been paying attention — and if you haven’t been paying attention, heaven help you — zombies are back. In films, books and video games, the undead are once again on the march, elbowing past werewolves, vampires, swamp things and mummies to become the post-millennial ghoul of the moment.

We’re all paparazzi now

Thanks to Gawker Stalker.

Early last week, Gawker.com, a heavily trafficked media gossip weblog, lobbed a small but spirited grenade into the arena of celebrity journalism when it launched an enhanced version of its Gawker Stalker feature. The user-submitted digest of star sightings — where they were, what they wore, how they acted and what they were doing — has been an enduring fixture on the web publication, widely considered a flagship among privately owned new media properties. (Gawker will soon open a storefront behind a plate glass window on Crosby Street in SoHo.)

Now, sightings are linked to a Google Maps interface, tagged by name, time and location. It’s a little crude, but users can get street-corner-specific coordinates for roaming celebrities.

This could work for spammers too….

Having problems with nuisance players in your MMPORG? You could always ask the administrators to crucify them. (Link first spotted at Boing Boing)

Prada Marfa: a Prada store in the desert where you can’t buy anything. Also an art piece, of sorts. How long do you think it took before the vandals hit it?

You may think posting drawings of your daily purchases online may be the height of fetishizing products. You’d be wrong.

It’s a tilt-shift world after all

Olivio Barbieri’s tilt-shift photography seems to have spawned some form of viral photo meme, both real and fake. (Photo belongs to Dutchb0y)
